Devon Johnson creates work that deals with the complexities, legacies, and myths surrounding early American history. His current focus is documenting historical sites that are desecrated by modern development, mistreatment, and neglect. Johnson’s intention is to draw light on the fact that as a society we care very little about our collective history. Johnson hopes that his work will inspire the viewer to question what is currently happening to these places. His intention is not to glorify the events that occurred at these sites; his purpose is to show that their memory is slowly fading from our view and should not be forgotten.
